Donna Dewberry Workshop Location Announcement

Registration is now open for Donna's workshops this fall!

With the help of Diane Gardner (thanks Diane!) we found a great spot. It is just two miles from the PA turnpike, which is very accessible, has a Comfort Inn right at that exit, and has tons of restaurants and fast food choices!

Here is the workshop information:

Location:
Parkwood United Presbyterian Church
4289 Mount Royal Blvd.
Allison Park, PA 15101
(only 2 miles off of exit 38 from the PA turnpike, just north of Pittsburgh)

Events:
  • Thursday, October 7th, 6-8:00 PM Crafty Wave Class*, Cost = $35
  • Friday, October 8th, 9:00 - 5:00 PM, Cost=$125
  • Saturday, October 9th, 9:00 - 5:00 PM, Cost=$125

* The Crafty Wave Class registration is restricted through September 7th to participants enrolled in either Friday or Saturday events. Starting September 7th, the Crafty Wave class will have open registration.

To sign up for Friday or Saturday, call Amanda at 352-394-7344. She will take your credit card information. You will not see a charge on your card until the minimum registration numbers are met. If you know you want to go, don't wait to call in! The sooner we meet that minimum the better!

Class content:
Thursday's crafty wave class topic will be announced closer to the class date. It will be one of her canvas projects. I get to pick which one, so suggestions are welcome!

Friday and Saturday will each have different projects, so you can sign up for both. They will follow a similar schedule: A canvas project in the morning will be followed with a water stroke demonstration, and the afternoon will be dedicated to a stroke study.

Stroke Study:
Last year we did a stroke study on leaves and ribbons. This year one day will be a stroke study on flowers and the other day will be something different, to be announced later. Thoughout the flower study Donna will show you how to arrange each flower she covers into a bouquet, which will be optional (you can practice-only if you prefer). I will help determine which day covers what, so if you have a strong preference for the flower study on a certain day, send me an e-mail.

That's the information I have for now! Spread the word!

Teacher Training Series - part 1

This is the first part of a brand new exciting four-part class series for more experienced painters and painters interested in teaching. You do not need to be a certified instructor to attend! Would you like to make some extra income doing something you love? Have you thought about teaching one stroke painting? Are you a certified instructor who needs that extra boost to get out there and teach? Then this class is for you!

In each class you will paint a full size canvas with interspersed instruction to get you out there teaching and sharing the "warm and fuzzy" of one stroke painting! We will cover topics like teaching venues, making your portfolio, class planning, techniques and analogies for teaching basic strokes, and more! Most importantly you will have the chance to actually practice what you learn during class, building on your experience and confidence!

Are you interested in just learning the canvas project and not interested in teaching? I'd still love to have you! You can take the class for a $10 discount, knowing you will not get any of the teaching content hand-outs and you can leave early (the practice exercises will be during the last hour of class).

Donna Dewberry 2010 Workshop update

OK painters, here is an update on what to expect for Donna's next PA workshop.

Donna has us on her calendar for Thursday October 7th through Saturday October 9th, written in pen (not pencil).

None of her workshops are "confirmed" until she gets her minimum number of sign-ups, which is 20 people for Friday and 20 for Saturday. The Dewberry Crafts office will take your credit card but will not charge it until the workshop is confirmed. They are not taking sign-ups yet, but will start soon - probably next month.

The set-up will be similar to November's:

Thursday night: Crafty Wave class, around $35 depending on the project
Friday: All day class, approximately 9-5:00, $125, lunch not included
Saturday: All day class, approximately 9-5:00, $125, lunch not included

The Friday and Saturday classes will have a canvas project in the morning (a different one each day) and a stroke-study based project in the afternoon (different each day). This is the standard format, but Donna is very flexible and wants to plan the days to meet the area's needs. We also have plenty of time to work through the details. I as host will be working with Donna on the itinerary, so input is welcome. One of the other workshops did three individual crafty wave projects on one of the days with individual sign-ups for each class and did the $125 workshop the other day. That could be an option for us. e-mail me at danellesdesigns@hotmail.com if you think this would be a good idea for our area. We would need to figure this out before we start officially collecting sign-ups.

I do not have a location picked out yet. I will have it in one location this time, preferably in a hotel in the Cranberry TWP area.

The most important thing is to get painters in the seats. This is what I need your help on - talk to your friends and your students! Help build the excitement! See my poll to the right of this blog and let me know what days you are interested in attending! Click "next poll" to vote on the workshop format!

Great class on Saturday!

Thanks to those of you who made the snowman banner class on Saturday so great! I hope to be offering this class in my home soon; family scheduling can be so tricky though!

My next class in New Stanton is on Saturday, February 20th, noon to 2:30. We are doing these adorable stacking memory boxes! This pattern can easily be applied to clay pots, shelves, etc.! R.S.V.P's are required! Cost is $25!

Watch this blog for additional class information - I am in the process of scheduling some advanced courses for aspiring teachers!
